Sea Change

We came home for our winter break, boy was it wonderful!  We spent about 10 total days in Van/Lindale TX with my family,  8 or so in Georgetown with Justin's family, and 5 in Waco with our old community.   3 weeks of sitting around can start to wear on you though, and as we were getting antsy, the Lord doth provide.... or something, right?  
I sit writing this morning  in our new, temporary, small home, anticipating the first day of my new, temporary job at World Hunger Relief in Waco, TX. That's right, we live, for a short while, at WHRI again.  "What happened to Pennsylvania?!" you might be saying. Would you like me to back up and explain?

So things stopped going so well for Green Pasture Farms. Some there like to say it's because of the rough weather we had this year- 2 floods, unseasonably fold spring and fall. they are giving a whole host of reasons why the business is floundering and struggling but NONE of the reasons they are supplying match up with what Justin and I see:
Those who run and fund Green Pasture Farms have never farmed before.  period. Aside from that- there's poor leadership and really poor communication from the top down- from the bossman to the 4 people who were doing all the production on farm. It became a mess, Justin and I saw it and began making plans to come home in the spring, but SURPRISE! Green Pasture Farms ran out of money in December and couldn't pay all its employees any more.  As the highest paid employees, we were the first to go.

BUT let's not forget about the new good news!  While we were on vacation, the ExDir. of WHRI sat down with us and asked us to help him out while a staff member takes medical leave for a few months.  They're providing housing and veggies, good pay, and a community to be in while we figure out our plans for when this job concludes in April (and we already have the start of a very good plan!).

so we're happy to say to everyone: we are home again.

winter break

So all that is on my mind these days is coming home for a good visit.  I am so excited and ready to see family and all my old friends, I'm seriously going to try to get to see all of you and I hope, if you can, you'll make an effort to see us too!

We'll be leaving Pennsylvania the week before Christmas, around the 20th, and we'll spend time with family in Georgetown and then Tyler until the 28th or 29th, but then we have all this time deep into January that we can spend traveling around visiting.  Waco, San Antonio, Austin, Houston, or wherever you are, get ready!!

Our plan is to get to waco in time to celebrate new years with everyone there so let us know if there's a party we need to hit!  Then we'll get some church time with Hope Fellowship. We're looking to stay with someone for 3-5 days in waco starting with new years eve so if you've got a bed or floor space, let us know! we're happy with couch hopping too if anyone is willing but only wants guests for a night.

After a good stay in Waco we're trying to see friends in Houston and family in Austin, and wherever Amy and Zach Griffin end up, we'll for sure go to that city to see them.  Keep us in mind starting new years on, cause we really really want to see you!

beginning of winter?

It's october 29th so it's still technically fall.

Here it is beginning to fall two days ago. just a light dusting.

then this is the build up from 12 to 4 today!

She loves it. she could totally be curled up in her chair on the porch but she prefers to be out in it!

I harvested dandelion roots while justin and I dug potatoes out of the ground. The v-plow we were using to dig up the potatoes also dug up dozens and dozens of huge dandelions!  I just stuffed my pockets as we went along.  I cleaned, chopped, dehydrated and roasted them last night. Now I have a little bit stored up for winter, since it looks like it has arrived!
