I am a farmer and a doula. My husband and I are recently planted into the soil of East Texas. Together we seek, we learn, we dance, we sing, and we grow vegetables, and I attend births. This blog is the ongoing story of our farming and birthing journey.

His Provision

is clearly evident.

I am 3 pages away from finishing Steinbeck's The Winter of Our Discontent. It's been one of my favorites for years but I couldn't remember why. It speaks of the heart of the American. A man of rare virtue, absolutely golden, shows the capacity for evil within even the best of us as he goes to terrible lengths of deceit and manipulation in his pursuit of wealth. It's heartbreaking.

Speaking of money ...

With an impeccable sense for time, the Divine has done two things:
filled my calendar in such a sporadic way as to make me unable to perform any normal well-paying day job;
orchestrated such a need within a certain company resulting in a position that would only fit the schedule of a desperately unemployed college graduate, or mine. And they are willing to compensate wonderfully to fill this need.

Also I went to a homeless shelter today. They need someone to play with kids from 3-6:30 every day. for pay even. for the next 2 weeks. I just so happen to be available for only the next two weeks.

Thus I commence my fourth temporary job.

I say fourth, yes:
1. Waco ISD substitute teaching (which, I had my first day today)
2. Weekly cleaning the Church at Tree Lake
3. School district saftey audits
4. Child care at Compassion Shelter

I am no longer the wandering aimless. I don't even care any more that the weather is cold and gloomy and I haven't seen the sun for weeks. I'm financially going to be okay. And much, much more than okay. If this sticks, I'll even afford to visit North India in May.
